Hi! My name is Pam, and I’m new to the Mommy Block Party team! I’m going to be doing a MONTHLY LIFE HACKS story for our readers. With spring just around the corner, we know we have some cleaning coming up, and I want to make that easier on us! I need easy in my life and who wants to spend days cleaning the house- NOT ME!
Spring Cleaning Life Hacks
Grab some LEMONS!
Lemons are an excellent resource for cleaning- why because they work and smell so good! Here are a few of my favorite hacks to use.
Are your kitchen/bathroom metallic fittings looking pretty gross theses days? I know my bathroom faucets, and knobs need weekly cleaning, or else it drives me crazy. All you got to do is grab a half of a lemon and squeeze some juice on a dry cloth and rub on the fitting! It will be sparkling for days.
Clean microwave with lemons- whoever came up with this hack is a genius! Get two lemons- halve them and put in a glass dish with water. Put the dish in the microwave, and you want it to boil-so put in there for a good 3-5 minutes. Then leave in microwave for a minute and BAM you can wipe down so easily that you want to do this hack couple times a month!
Lemons also clean cutting boards. You will need large-grain salt and half of a lemon. Sprinkle the salt all over the board. Then rub with half the lemon.
Stock up on BAKING SODA!
Baking soda is something that is cheap and can get pretty much any store- even the corner liquor store (just saying).
Drop silverware in the pot for 10 seconds then remove using kitchen tongs
Do you have watermarks all over your shower door/screen? Sprinkle a little baking soda on a sponge and wipe. Leave on for a few minutes, then rinse. Let dry, but I love to use a squeegee to get that streak-free look!
Have you got a tile grout? Grab that baking soda with a little bit of bleach and use a hard toothbrush. You can let it sit for a bit, then scrub, but after it’s done oh how clean it will look!
Another great spring clean hack is using COLA!
Now I don’t have coke cola to drink in my house, but I have a couple of cans (hidden) for cleaning!
Is your couch or chairs looking dingy and maybe some stains? Well, have you tried cola to get them clean? Yes, I’m talking coke cola. Before putting fabrics in the wash, rub some cola on the stains then wash.
Maybe you have discoloration in between the grout tiles. Grab a brush and a cup of cola, and you are on your way to some clean tiles.
Do your kids like to color on the carpet, but now you have pen marker stains. No worries pour a little cola on the stain, rub it in, then clean off with water. Poof- gone!
Don’t forget the VINEGAR!
I use vinegar for the majority of my cleaning. Vinegar is cheap and works amazingly. I’m all about saving money and using items I already have- plus, all the chemicals in cleaners are too harsh for me.
Clean blinds with a diluted vinegar mixture. Use an old sock (sssh I stole my hubbies) put over your hand, dip into the solution then run over the blades of the blind!
Gross toilet? Get a jar with a lid, fill it with vinegar, then put a small hole in the lid, then place it in the tank. With each flush, the vinegar will keep the toilet bowl fresh and clean!
Do you have stubborn carpet stains? Get a spray bottle and mix two-thirds water and one-third vinegar. Spray mixture on the stain, then put an iron on it with the hot steam setting and press it on for 30 seconds- repeat if needed.
