Sponges come to the rescue nearly every single day. They wash away our problems by washing away the dirt on our dishes. Just a few quick swipes and that spoon is as good as new.
They're so common that you can even pick from a variety of colors at the grocery store. That's right this affordable, multi-faceted little apparatus is going to change your life in more ways than one! If you thought sponges were just for cleaning, think again.
1. Refrigerator humidity control
Place a sponge anywhere in your fridge, but preferably inside one of the drawers. The sponge will begin to soak up any excess moisture caused by fruit, vegetables or any water-filled foods.
Because your sponge is soaking up the moisture, your fruits and vegetables will remain dryer, helping them to last longer.
2. Nail polish remover container
All of a sudden, it makes sense right? All you have to do is put the chosen sponge into a little jar or container and soak the sponge in the polish remover.
When you're ready to remove your nail polish, just dip your hands into the jar and allow the sponge to clean off that week-old color. The texture of the sponge makes this process so easy that you'll wish you had thought of this sooner!
3. Polish your valuables
Just add some baking soda to the sponge and lightly scrub away at your fancy silverware. The sponge and baking soda combo works like a charm.
The sponge's gritty, yet soft texture allows the silverware to be scrubbed clean, but in a gentle, safe way. Your silverware has never shined so bright.
4. Pain killer
Have a toothache? It happens to everyone. Use a clean sponge and soak it in any kind of numbing agent (vanilla extract, whiskey, etc) and pad the soaked sponge over the aching tooth for about a minute. The soaked sponge will take the pain away in no time.
5. Car scratch remover
It seems simple enough, right? As long as you have some toothpaste and a sponge, there's no need to spend an exorbitant amount of money at a car shop trying to get out pesky scratches.
Just apply the toothpaste to the sponge and lightly rub the scratched surface area in circular motions, and the scratch will be impressively minimized. In many cases, depending on the severity of the scratch, this method will help it come off altogether.
6. Bottle cleaner
Ever wonder how you're going to clean the inside of a narrow bottle or container? You can't fit your hand down the tiny opening, and that poses for a real issue. Don't stress, use a sponge.
Wrap a sponge around the end of a chopstick or utensil, and you've got yourself a cleaning tool that can reach the bottom and sides of even the narrowest containers.
7. Kneepads
Ever garden? Scrub your kitchen tile floor? Hard surfaces can be tough on your knees if you're not careful. Use a sponge to pad your knees when you're doing dirty work and it will make the entire process much more comfortable.
Wrap the sponge around your knee with some kind of string or adhesive tape nothing serious, but enough to keep the sponges under your knees (if you're on tile, you might not even need anything to hold the sponges in place. They'll most likely slide along with you).
The sponges add a layer of protection that will make you glad you didn't suffer through another scrub-down on a tile surface.
8. Soap holder
Sometimes, using a bar of soap gets a bit messy especially when the holder begins to collect the soap's residue after each use. For example, if you're using a dark colored holder for a bar of soap, and the bar of soap is white, the white residue is going to collect and look messy and uncleanly.
Instead of doing this, just use a sponge to place the bar of soap on top of! The sponge will collect the wet, messy residue after each use and your guests won't question the cleanliness of your bathroom.
