Homemade Pizza Pockets for Kids

These Homemade Pizza Pockets are the perfect solution to what you’re going to feed your kids for lunch during their summer break! I even love making these for back to school time, too! They’re great for an after school snack or for an easy dinner when everyone is going in different directions for sports practices and lessons!

How to Make Homemade Pizza Pockets

I LOVE letting my kids help make these Homemade Pizza Pockets, because it’s fun for them to customize their pizza pockets with their favorite pizza toppings. They’re easy enough for me to whip up in a hurry, but fun enough that it can be a family activity for us all to make them together! The ingredients are really simple, too!

DIY Pizza Pocket Ingredients

Refrigerated Pizza Crust I love using premade pizza crust dough because it’s so easy! My favorite brand is Pillsbury

Pasta Sauce There are so many pasta sauce options, including some no-sugar-added ones.

Mozzarella Cheese You can use either fresh mozzarella or the regular shredded kind.

Pepperoni Of course you could use any of your favorite pizza toppings instead of pepperoni! Some of my kiddos like veggies and others like Canadian bacon or sausage. So you can just fill the Homemade Pizza Pockets with whatever your family likes best!

There is a recipe for Homemade Pizza Pockets at the bottom of this post, but I’m also going to share the step by step directions with photos, because I know so many of you all prefer that, too!

Homemade Pizza Pocket Dough

First, you’ll need to preheat your oven to 425F. Open the tube of premade pizza crust and roll it flat on a piece of parchment paper or on a floured surface. (I prefer using the parchment paper for these Homemade Pizza Pockets. You may need to stretch the crust a bit to get it the close to the rectangle shape you want. Cut the pizza crust into 6 squares with a pizza cutter. (I haven’t tried using a knife to cut this, but I do know the pizza cutter slices right through this without stretching the dough, so I suggest the pizza cutter!)

Next, add about about 1 Tablespoon of pasta sauce onto each square. I just spooned it on with a larger spoon from our silverware drawer and that worked just fine! You can add more or less sauce depending on how much you like on your Homemade Pizza Pocket. Sprinkle on some mozzarella cheese and customize with the toppings.

Then, you’ll need to fold over each square to make triangular pizza pockets. Seal the edges with a fork. If some of the sauce leaks out, that is ok! Mine did that and they turned out just fine. Just be sure to crimp those edges tightly with the fork so the ingredients don’t seep out while you’re baking them.

Optional – Brush the top of each triangle with a small amount of oil. Sprinkle some dried oregano leaves or
Italian seasoning on top. Sometimes I like to brush the top with an egg white that is beaten. That always creates a nice shiny, golden color on the Homemade Pizza Pockets!

Bake at 425F for 10 to 13 minutes until they are golden. Serve with a little bowl of pasta sauce for dipping.

My Homemade Pizza Pockets turned out perfectly and my kids loved them!! They ask for them once a week now! Ha! At least they’re easy to make, right? You can serve them with more pizza sauce for dipping and sometimes, my kids like ranch, too.
