I’m a foodie through and through (and a proud one at that), however I have to admit, sometimes, nothing beats a great takeaway – especially when it’s been a long day of traveling or exploring, especially a city as big as Bangkok at that.
If you happen to be staying in the Sukhumvit area – yes, there is so much food at every corner especially here, but it can become pretty overwhelming/time-consuming/tiring – we’ve found our choice of favourite cafes, restaurants, speciality coffee houses and street food spots that are now available on food apps in Bangkok such as Foodpanda and GrabFood.
Whether you’re in the mood for Korean or Japanese, something fresh or something local, this will have you covered.
Note: GrabFood services will only operate from 4am to 9pm for Bangkok and nearby areas to comply with government regulations.
Disclaimer: Operational hours of each restaurant may change anytime due to the current pandemic. Please call the operators to confirm before ordering.

16 things to do around Bangkok’s riverside including Instagrammable places to eat and markets
1. Wholesome and homely — Thyme
To start, everything on the menu looks mouth-watering here to be dead honest, and I’ll definitely be ordering one of their Seafood Cold Cut platters aptly named Milk & Meat from the Farm.
If you’re looking for seriously hearty, great food, scroll down to their super diverse menu… I mean they even serve lobster… Get outta town!
If you’re looking for something for brekkie, brunch or lunch, their various pasta options are all mouth-watering – Salmon Pink Cream Pasta anyone?
2. All the delicious dimsum you could imagine — Hong Bao
SO, who doesn’t like dimsum?! (I’ve yet to meet anyone who actually doesn’t, even if trying it for the first time.)
Although this Chinese restaurant serves main course dishes (try their Peking Duck either served roasted (the classic way!) or Szechuan style done in a spicy chili stir-fry style), they are known for their epic dimsum.
Customers rave about the Salapao Lava Baos here, with the perfect amount of creaminess, as well as Shumai (steamed shrimp and/or pork dumplings).
P.s. They also do a week-day traditional Chinese high-tea (but obvs not for ordering in ).
3. The ultimate veggie brunch cafe — Veganerie Concept
Let’s be real, sometimes after a few days (or weeks) of instant/fast food, all you just want is a home-cooked meal! And the best news is, IT’S ALL VEGAN BASED (for all the vegans and vegetarians reading this).
Here, you’ll find a mix of both Thai and western foods; think Baked Pizza Roti (crispy & tender baked roti topped with homemade tomato sauce, mushrooms, vegan sausage, vegan cheese sauce and cashew nut parmesan).
Feeling something sweet? They do divine Butterscotch Hotcakes made with almond flour, topped with peanut butter, cookie crumble, soy caramel and coconut whipped cream!
4. Transport to Japan — Katsuya
I totally get why this is considered as Japanese comfort food… Scrumptious breaded and fried (or sometimes tempura) pork cutlets served with rice and a traditional side salad.
There are some delicious combo sets to try like their Loin Katsu Curry Rice and Gyoza (which comes with a serving of four).
5. A fantastic street food choice — Dancing Duck Noodle
In the mood for duck? Well this menu is duck errthang so time to fill that craving!
Calling themselves both a Chinese and Thai restaurant, they take influence from a lot of Chinese dishes, using local ingredients.
Expect loads of different noodle and rice dishes, as well as different soups to order from.
6. One for all the health fanatics — Acai Story
Want something light and fresh for breakfast? If you’re like me (or vegan), I’m not a fan of eggs – or noodles – for breakfast, so this is an ideal option in my personal opinion
Their Acai bowls are super yummy filled with goji seeds, coconut shreds, chia seeds and more! They have a nice variety to choose from that all look so delicious, it may be quite difficult to make up your mind!
We also have to mention the drinks… French Vanilla Latte or Lychee Roselle Flaneur Blend tea anyone? Yes, please.
7. The original takeaway delivery — Pizza Artisana
Okay, so logically speaking we just had to include a pizza option – I feel like pizza was probably the start of the delivery service revolution, and to be honest for some reason ordering takeaway pizza is always a yummy option!
The pizzas here are made in an oven, with a perfectly thin (but not too much so), crispy base, and simplistic toppings – the true Italian way.
8. A great choice if you’re a big group and you’re all after something different — B Story Cafe
Now we know that actually visiting this gorgeous garden cafe is always a pleasure, with all it’s stunning greenery hanging from the walls and ceilings, but if you are craving one of their mouth-watering dishes you’ll be delighted to know you can order it online!
1. Korean-style fried chicken wings
2. Grilled salmon served with asparagus and tomatoes
3. Pizza Mexican Quesadilla
4. Macaroni with cheddar cheese and fried bacon
5. Fruit salad with fried shrimp perfect for every occasion!
The best thing about B-story Café: “Thai and Western food menu with its wide range of selections.”
9. My kind of brunch meal — GRAM Pancakes
Well, with a name like this, our first thoughts are ‘trendy food’. And although you may not be stepping into the actual cafe itself, their desserts are just so tres hipster / on trend.
From Premium To Go (handheld) pancakes to classic pancakes, they’re great when you feel like snacking on something sweet. And when your food arrives, you may just end up snapping away anyhow – it’s just that pretty!
10. Because nothing beats Korean fried chicken! — Overseoul
Tired of Thai? Opt for some absolutely mouth-watering Korean street food!
They’ve got all our usual favourites, from Korean Fried Chicken to Tteok-Bokki served with Ramyeon noodles… Try their Hot Steamed Pork Belly, or their Roasted Chicken with salt and sesame oil!
Another super traditional (and cute) dish to try is their School Lunch Box (based on what moms make their kids for school, served in a container and you usually shake all the ingredients inside together before eating).
11. Fantastic choices from all around the world — D’ARK
If you’re feeling cramped indoors after days of staying at home, nothing beats ordering in some seriously delicious (and naughty) food!
Burgers, pastas, schnitzels and brownies, you’ll want to order it all!
The cool thing about this restaurant is that there seems to be a mix of all cuisines here from American to Italian to Japanese.
They also do some yum healthier options such as Avo Cheesecake or a Quinoa Sushi Bowl.
P.s. They are also a speciality coffee house, so do take advantage!
12. Instant freshness — Whale Belly Poke Bar
Oooo. I’m such a fan of a good Poke Bowl with absolutely fresh ingredients and a variety of them.
So at this poke bar, we’re all winners as they tick all of the above!
They do four options that are already made up, or you can make your own (To be honest, I prefer this option as I can create a bowl specifically to my own liking/palette/mood of the day).
13. A spot that takes their coffee seriously — Roots Coffee Roaster
Nothing starts a day like a great coffee. Recently when traveling, I stayed in a place with not a lot of restaurants/cafes around me, so I resorted to Grab Food to try to get my morning fix but was sadly disappointed in the lack of great coffee shops available. So this is awesome!
If you’re on the hunt for flavour, or maybe you consider yourself a true coffee connoisseur… You simply have to give this speciality coffee powerhouse a try.
Intrigued with trying something different? Their signature thing is their infused coffee in all different fruity & floral assortments.

Website 14. GIMME ANYTHING FROM A BAKERY — Holey Artisan Bakery
Artisanal bakery, uh, sold!
Scroll through the heavenly pages of a world filled with yummy soups, sarmies, paninis, pastries and even artisanal pizzas.
There’s also a load of sweet treats and deli items to choose from, plus fresh juices and coffees!
15. After a few days traveling, nothing beats an incredible bowl of soup — Yuan Mi Pang Pao
I’m sure my co-writers over here at TC can testify to this one… I absolutely LOVE soups, and there’s just something so homely and heart-warming about a fantastic one!
So it’s amazing to know I can order one directly to my doorstep – and be it delicious Wonton Noodle Soup to be exact!
They’re super affordable, and the last thing we’re gonna mention to try food-wise is their Crispy Pork Belly – you’re welcome!
16. Try this yummy local breakfast meal — Joke Bangkok
Want to try something super local yet comforting? Get Jok porridge (a typical meal that Thais eat for breakfast and is basically the Thai version of congee).
Here you’ll not only find Jok, but curries too – all Thai of course – as well as some traditional spicy salads and satay.
17. A must-try when in Thailand — Khao Neow Moon Mae Varee
Ever get a sweet craving at night? (Culprit right here!).
Well in Thailand, it’s a given that one must try Mango Sticky Rice and it’s totally one of my favourite dishes that come from Thailand – so simple but SO good.
They also offer some other mango dishes and make for the perfect choice if you’re after something sweeter, but not necessarily a pudding or chocolate.
And there you have it folks, our favourite picks of restaurants, cafes, coffee houses and local street food spots to choose from, all now available from the convenience of your mobile phone and the comfort of your home.
