2022 saw the opening of the spectacular Vale Brewing Taphouse in McLaren Flat, and wowza is it one speccy venue! Home to some of the best beer that SA has to offer, views for days, a menu filled with local produce and plenty of big plans in their pipelines, it’s shot to the top of our list when we’re hunting for a day out in the Fleurieu region.
There’s so much happening as this venue firmly plants it’s feet as a go-to destination, so we’ve put together the top five reasons why you should jump in the car and head towards the Taphouse right now.
No seriously, what are you waiting for?
Best beer in the biz
Vale Brewing might be the original beer of McLaren Vale, but this crew is always jazzing things up with new releases left, right and centre. Since opening last year, they’ve introduced a number of beer exclusives, including a Red Lager, as well as its award-winning core range including the Tropic Ale which was named the World’s Best Pale Ale.
And now, drumroll please… they are exclusively pouring their brand new Super Session beer, the Sunset Ale at the Taphouse. Sitting at just 1.75% ABV, it’s the perfect bevvy to enjoy on those long summer days and well into the night. Don’t let the low ABV fool you — Vale’s Super Session Sunset Ale is bursting with flavour with a Munich and Gladfield Aurora malt base, giving it a richness and complexity you wouldn’t normally associate with a session ale.
If you’re a beer lover that just can’t get enough, give this newbie a whirl… #NoRegrets!
Brews and views
There’s a reason the Taphouse has adopted the slogan “brews and views”… while the Taphouse building is something pretty special, it’s the expansive lawn area overlooking some of the best views in McLaren Vale that gives it the WOW factor. Sip your favourite ale in the sunshine out on the grass, play classic lawn games and just soak in everything that McLaren Vale has to offer. Life doesn’t get much better than that!
Food, glorious food!
The menu is a total showstopper with oodles to choose from — and it celebrates the best of the best that local produce has to offer. As Bickford’s Group MD Angelo Kotses says, “We create food that we love to eat, using seasonal produce that is designed to be shared and of course compliment the reason we are here – Beer”.
We’ve got some personal favourites of course, but you really can’t go wrong. If you’re after a recommendation, grab yourself the Port Lincoln monkfish, sea urchin butter, hash brown, lemon mayo as a snack, the Nomad chicken salad, asparagus, kohlrabi, mizuna, shitake, chilli, miso dressing, and make sure to share the 1.2 kg Margra smoked lamb shoulder, cumin, salsa verde, lamb broth with your besties (hot tip: bring a big group so you can try EVERYTHING)!
Party place
Not only is the Taphouse a fabulous venue for your next big shindig (wedding photos here would be stunning, just saying!), but they also play host to some great events, like SummerVines A Balance of Botanicals – A Gin and Dining Experience on 20, 23, 24, 25 and 26 January. We’re definitely going to keep our eyes peeled for any other celebrations popping up at the Taphouse, it’s a good time alright!
South Australian, through and through
We were well and truly sold, but this just tipped us over the edge — Vale Brewing and the Taphouse are allllllll about our fellow South Aussies, just like we are!
“We are a proud South Australian, family owned business committed to investing significantly in the future of South Australian brands like Vale Brewing and cannot wait to see them continue to grow and flourish. We invest in South Australia, its people and the regions. The Vale Taphouse & Estate has created 50 new jobs for the McLaren Vale region with many more to come and we’re continuing to drive tourism to the beautiful McLaren Vale region,” says Angelo. So if you’re going to pick anywhere for lunch, pick the place that gives back to the people supporting them!
We’re not mucking around guys, the Taphouse has everything we love in a good day out — all it’s missing, is you!
