New Year’s Eve is stereotypically all about champagne, confetti, and tacky sunglasses (the designs really went down after 2009). If you’re professional ballet dancer Misty Copeland, however, the night is a celebration of the end of Nutcracker season. “Normally I flee somewhere warm,” she says. “The Maldives, Los Angeles, any beach really.” But this year, the American Ballet Theatre principal is kicking off a little closer to home.
As a mom-to-be, Copeland is taking it easy next week with a cozy night in. Straight from her New York City apartment, the prima ballerina gave us all of her entertaining tips, even if you’re just hosting yourself.
On the Table
Since my kitchen renovation last year, I’ve been learning to experiment more with cooking on the LG Signature Double Oven Range. I’m leaning toward something comforting yet elegant [for New Year’s Eve]. Maybe a sweet potato mash with a citrus marinated salmon fillet on top, and a side of sautéed asparagus, all served on Muriel Grateau’s sexy dinnerware—too delicate for everyday but ideal for special occasions.
On the Screen
You can find me on the couch sipping tea (maybe eating pie) and watching anything from the Turner Classic Movies network on the new LG Signature Rollable TV. My husband and I love old movies and horror films! If you dig, there’s some pretty good holiday-themed horrors out there.
On the Sofa
My favorite throw is a simple wool RH blanket. It’s old and comfy, and my husband hates it! Ha! But it’s the perfect size and weight to cover up with.
Being pregnant, my go-to cocktail has actually been a Shirley Temple or a simple tonic water, but that doesn’t mean I have to forgo fancy glassware. I’ll be sipping my signature drink from my favorite Rosenthal flutes.
