I think we can all agree that things have been a little interesting this month. Fourteen days ago we heard rumblings of Covid-19 entering the United States and eight days ago Joe and I decided to take Otto out of daycare and stay home with him until the threat of this virus has passed. It seems like everything came upon us in one day. The grocery stores were flooded with people buying toilet paper for the next ten years as well as anything canned or frozen they could get their hands on. I went to Gordon Food Service two Saturdays ago and was relieved to see that the shelves were very well stocked and I was able to get what I needed. Now that things continue to escalate we are staying home and avoiding public places but there are still ways to get my groceries.
This past Wednesday I needed some fresh products like fruits, vegetables, butter and milk. When I visit the Gordon Food Service Store on Michigan street they are always stocked with sanitizing cart wipes and hand sanitizer at the checkout. However this time I did my grocery shopping from my kitchen table. I was able to order everything I needed with their online ordering system. I selected my pick up time and all I had was show up, grab my boxes of groceries and head home. Don’t get me wrong I am one of those people who truly loves wandering around the grocery store but that will be for another day. If you live closer to a store’s location you can opt to have Instacart deliver your groceries. There is no membership required to shop at Gordon Food Service Stores.
While making my list, I focused on produce and dairy that had a longer shelf life so I could get enough to last us two weeks without waste.
