Midwest Farmers Market Report June

This week brought back so many memories of when Otto was a newborn and I was desperate to get out of the house but we had to be careful because he was pre surgery and in heart failure. The farmers market always felt like (and was) a safe place for us to go. Every Wednesday it would take me at least an hour to pack up all of our crap (meds, clothes, feeding supplies etc) to head out and drive to Holland, MI to soak up a short walk around town before everything opened and to get to the farmers market first thing before crowds starting pouring in.

We did that for the first time this summer and it was so easy to forget all the bad stuff (old heart memories as well as covid threat) but I was so grateful for what the Holland Farmers Market was doing to keep everyone safe. They were limiting the amount of shoppers allowed in at one time, everyone had to wear a mask *if able and everyone kept their 6 feet of distance. Otto was on the hunt for pink flowers since he knew my peonies from last week had died and I was on the hunt for some fresh items for dinner this week as well as a flat of strawberries to take home.

There is nothing that tastes better than fresh picked Michigan strawberries and they are officially in season. For $35/flat I had about 10 jars with worth of jam to put up. I also bought garlic scapes, a zucchini and of course fresh goat cheese. Otto had a blueberry donut which he said was DELICIOUS.

For old times sake we walked around town and to the park. Making a pit stop by readers world to pick up some peppa pig books we didn’t need before heading back home. There are amazing farmers markets in Michigan (here are my favs) But my Wednesday tradition will always be one of my favorites.
