You could order a signature steak and expect to pay between $25 – $35 per entrees on the higher end. If you want to save money, you could order a smaller 6 oz. sirloin steak combo for under $20. On the budget minded edge of the spectrum, you could order a burger between $13 and $15. The total cost to dine depends on individual preferences.

When you compare the prices against other steakhouse competitors like Ruth’s Chris, the cost to dine at Outback Steakhouse is a lot more affordable. Here are a few examples of the price differences between both restaurants for comparable menu items:

• 6 oz. Filet & Shrimp at Ruth’s Chris: $62.50
• 6 oz. Sirloin with Bloomin’ Onion at Outback Steakhouse: $16.99 (73% less expensive)

Of course, these are not exactly apples to apples comparisons. At Ruth’s Chris, the steak is USDA Prime certified steaks that are much more tender than mid-range priced chains. The quality of meats, combined with the level of service and the dining atmosphere is what typically distinguishes a mid-range chain from a high-end one.

The secret behind Outback’s pricing is that they are one of the biggest buyers of Choice steak. Choice beef is a grade of beef that falls below the highest grade (Prime) but still offers good quality and marbling. Ruth’s Chris only serves Prime beef and that’s one major menu differentiator between the two establishments. 

Of course, there are other ways Outback Steakhouse is keeps menu prices down by cutting labor costs. Like so many other restaurants, Outback added self-serve tablets that are placed on each table. These tablets allow diners to order drinks, desserts, or pay their tab. This reduces the amount of wait staff required to run the restaurant. At Ruth’s Chris, you can only order from a human being.

According to Nation’s Restaurant News, Outback’s parent company, Bloomin’ Brands, announced plans to raise menu prices by 5% in 2022. The brand also owns iconic eateries like Carrabba’s Italian Grill, Bonefish Grill, and Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar that all nudged their menu prices upward.

The primary reason cited for this price increase is the rising inflation. The costs of most products and labor have been higher than expected. It is a well-known fact that Outback has raised its prices even before this year. The Florida-based chain has increased prices by 3% to fight inflationary pressures in 2021 as well.

Even though prices at Outback Steakhouse have gone up the last couple of years there are still some effective ways to save money on every visit. My favorite is the Tuesday and Wednesday meal specials.

Tuesday Tails Special starting at $24.99: The special includes a steamed lobster tail, a center-cut sirloin, a steakhouse potato, and a choice of a side.

Walkabout Wednesday Specialty for $13.99: you can choose a 6 oz center-cut sirloin or grilled chicken on the barbie, plus Aussie fries and a 16 oz domestic draft beer or an ice-cold Coca-Cola® product.

These deals are available on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Of course you can claim a free Bloomin’ Onion ($9.99 value) any day of the week when you sign up for Dine Rewards. Similar to other loyalty programs you’ll start accumulating points that can be used toward free food by joining this loyalty program. For every 350 points you earn, you’ll get a $5 off coupon.
